Children (AKA one reason of many to come)

I didn't really plan to write an entry until much later today, but this simply pisses me off to no end, so off writing I am!

A 3-year old kid flushed a new-born kitten down the toilet. Yes, you read that right. Read the article, and marvel at how they treat the whole ordeal.

I'm not really a fan of animals. One could go as far as to say I hate animals (ohh, another entry to come).  But what I hate even more is the treatment of some animals. I don't mind the meat industry though. The fact that animals are sacrificed in order for humans to eat isn't disturbing. I actually find the treatment of dolphins documented in The Cove to be quite reasonable when compared to the meat industry in the west. What I do hate however, is the completely uncalled for abuse of animals and pets, based on either a lack of knowledge or just pure sadism. Which was displayed in the above article.

Somehow, when children do terrible things, things go without concequence. In the article, nobody really minded the whole thing. The child did something out of habit, and so nobody is to blame.

Seriously, the kid has been flushing things down the toilet for a long time, their cat just had kittens, and nobody could even consider to do anything to keep the two separated? Sigh. Another example of people being complete idiots.

I think the most noteworthy thing about it though, is how it's treated just because it's a kid doing it. An article in the biggest swedish newspaper even ended with the sentence "it's hard to be mad at the girl when she's so cute". Remember this woman? A national hate campaign was launched against her, the internet helped out in finding her name out. Unlucky for her she wasn't cute enough, because then she'd gone without repercussions.

  4. Meh, obviously the kid didn't really know what he's doing, he'll learn from this, you shouldn't really hate on the kid. Terribly sad still

  10. Interesting comments you left on my latest post.

As for this post, I find people to be completely hypocritical about such things. It's bad if an old(er) person does it, but fine if a little kid does it.

It's bad to kill cute animals, but it's fine to kill ugly animals or animals for food.

The only reason this story and the old lady story made the news is because they were harming cats, if they had been harming an ugly animal of similar size (say, a tarantula) I doubt anybody would've cared.

I'd suggest a punishment for the kid with the same consequences as a punishment for the older lady, IE not making them do it again. We could, let's say, NOT having her happily pose with the drenched cat in hand, going "aww, you're cute, but we're sorry, please don't do that again"

Pig Disgusting: Thanks for the comment, and I agree. Even if I'm still guilty of caring more for cuter animals, I still morally suggest equal exposition in media to the killing of "cute" animals as that of "ugly" animals. You often see snakes, spiders and other non-cute animals get squashed and decapitated, but show a puppy getting just a little hurt and you have a public uproar. I understand the cultural background for this, but as a modern society we should start moving away from superficial things like "cuteness", at least when considering crimes and punishment.

  12. that's so sad... where were the parents when this was going on? they're ultimately to blame.

  13. The kid is three, he has no idea about what he did. You can't punish that. He is not a cognitive adult , he barely understands why he shits. This is sad and shouldn't have happened. Ive heard of toddlers flushing VERY expensive jewelery so if a parent let's their money get flushed, these things are possible.

  14. They should have kept the two separate but you can't do too much. Besides, if you don't like animals, why do you care?

  15. What, this seriously made me angry, someone should flush the hell out of that kid
